Primary Purpose of Position
The Playing Fields Services Technician is responsible for ensuring the upkeep of the University’s athletic facilities, contributing to a conducive environment for working, teaching, and learning. This role focuses on maintaining the sports fields and adjacent areas, particularly in response to the expansion of landscaped areas on campus.

Key Responsibilities
The technician will perform various maintenance tasks associated with NCAA sports fields, including:
  • Line painting and clay infield work
  • Application of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and fertilizers
  • Litter control and weed management
  • Trimming undergrowth and pruning trees
  • Repairing erosion and maintaining drainage structures
  • Snow and ice removal from walkways and steps

Minimum Education/Experience
Required Qualifications:
Some knowledge of groundskeeping practices, ability to follow instructions, and capacity to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience, along with two (2) years of relevant grounds experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, with three (3) years of related grounds experience preferred.

Essential Job Duties
The Playing Fields Services Technician will operate under the guidance of the Grounds Supervisor/Playing Fields Supervisor. Duties include:
  • Maintenance of NCAA Division I sports fields
  • General grounds maintenance tasks
  • Assisting in the upkeep of University facilities

Daily Responsibilities
Tasks may include:
  • Litter control and tractor operation
  • Weed eating, edging, and blowing
  • Mowing, seeding, and fertilizing
  • Installation and maintenance of irrigation systems
  • Pruning and pesticide application
  • Operating heavy machinery and grounds maintenance equipment

Departmental Preferred Experience
Three or more years of experience in professional turf management, particularly in golf courses or NCAA Division I sports fields. Familiarity with marking and painting sports fields, operating reel mowers, and advanced pruning techniques is advantageous.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications
Eligibility for required certifications and a valid driver's license are necessary.
