Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Beamline Scientist to join our team at Argonne National Laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and leading synchrotron radiation research at the new Coherent High-Energy X-ray (CHEX) beamline.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop advanced instrumentation for x-ray diffraction and coherent x-ray diffraction applications.
  • Develop and implement advanced data analysis algorithms to support x-ray surface scattering and general x-ray diffraction experiments.
  • Collaborate with visiting user groups to obtain high-quality experimental results.
  • Contribute to the development of scientific applications and advanced instrumentation for x-ray diffraction.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in physics, applied physics, materials science, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in experimental physics, with a strong background in x-ray diffraction and coherent x-ray diffraction.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong understanding of x-ray diffraction methods, coherent x-ray diffraction, film growth, x-ray physics, and applications.
  • Knowledge of synchrotron radiation, x-ray optics, detectors, and precision instrumentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters or Bachelors degree in a related field, with relevant experience.
  • Experience with data analysis algorithms and methods.
  • Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
