Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Beamline Scientist to join our team at Argonne National Laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and leading synchrotron radiation research at the new Coherent High-Energy X-ray (CHEX) beamline.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, construct, and operate synchrotron equipment in support of x-ray surface scattering and general x-ray diffraction experiments using the newly upgraded high brightness x-ray source.
  • Develop and implement advanced data analysis algorithms and techniques to enhance research outcomes.
  • Collaborate with visiting user groups to obtain high-quality experimental results and advance scientific knowledge.
  • Contribute to the development of new scientific applications and instrumentation for x-ray diffraction and coherent x-ray diffraction applications.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in physics, applied physics, materials science, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in experimental physics, with a strong background in x-ray diffraction and synchrotron radiation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present research results in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and implement complex experiments and data analysis techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with advanced data analysis algorithms and techniques, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Knowledge of x-ray optics, detectors, and precision instrumentation.
  • Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
