Overview

Position Summary
Assists in delivering patient care under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse. Ensures a hygienic and secure patient environment while performing duties safely.

Completes administrative support tasks and executes related Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II responsibilities in accordance with state regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Provides direct patient care as assigned by the Registered Nurse.
Engages with patients, visitors, physicians, nursing staff, and various team members.
Informs physicians of admissions, consultations, and other relevant details as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Handles computer data entry tasks, including order entry, procedure cancellations, and billing as necessary.
Reviews patient census, types, and accommodation codes, making updates as needed.
Files results, reports, and related documentation in the patient record.
Coordinates scheduled surgeries, procedures, tests, and necessary communications for the unit/department.
Maintains reports and logs pertinent to patient care and prepares reports for management and charge nurses.

Communicates new orders and/or patient requests to the responsible nurse or healthcare team member, following up with the registered nurse for order verification.

Utilizes patient labels to accurately identify all related documentation, requisitions, and identification tags with the correct patient's information.

Conducts a verbal or written handoff of essential information at the end of each shift with the incoming unit secretary, healthcare technician, nurse aide, and charge nurse.

Assists with the transfer of patients, equipment, supplies, or specimens.

Physical Requirements
Regularly requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be capable of lifting and supporting weights of up to 35 pounds when handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficient in basic English communication. Must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Requires manual dexterity.

Education, Training, and Experience
A high school diploma or GED is required.

Completion of an approved Nurse Aide Training Program or enrollment as a student nurse, meeting the listing criteria of the DFS Nurse Aide Registry is necessary.

Current listing with DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide I is required. May also hold a Nurse Aide II designation. A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in Acute Care is preferred.

Patient Population Served

Demonstrates understanding of growth and development principles and exhibits skills and competencies appropriate to the ages, cultures, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.

Protected Health Information
Access to protected health information (PHI) will be limited to what is reasonably necessary to perform job duties.
Information will be shared strictly on a need-to-know basis for work-related purposes.

Access to verbal, written, and electronic PHI for this position is determined based on job level and responsibilities within the organization.

Computerized access to PHI is controlled via user ID and password.

Machines, Tools, and Equipment

Utilizes blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, thermometers, personal protective equipment, wheelchairs, stretchers, utility carts, and related clinical tools, as well as computers, printers, FAX machines, telephones, copiers, intercoms, and materials transport systems.
