Assists in delivering patient care under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse. Ensures a hygienic and secure patient environment while performing duties safely.
Handles clerical support tasks and executes related Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II responsibilities as per the state listing requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvides direct patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Engages in communication with patients, visitors, medical staff, and various team members.
Informs physicians regarding admissions, consultations, and other essential information as instructed by the Registered Nurse.
Completes necessary computer data entry tasks, including order entry, procedure cancellations, and billing as required.
Reviews patient census, types, and accommodation codes, making updates as necessary.
Files results, reports, and related chart forms in the patient record.
Coordinates scheduled surgeries, procedures, tests, and relevant communications as required by the unit or department.
Maintains reports and logs pertinent to the patient care area and prepares reports for management and charge nurses.
Communicates new orders and/or patient requests to the responsible nurse or healthcare team member and follows up with the registered nurse for order verification.
Utilizes patient labels to accurately identify all related chart forms, requisitions, and identification tags with the correct patient's name, history, and account number.
Conducts a verbal or written handoff of essential information at the end of each shift with the incoming unit secretary, healthcare technician, nurse aide, and charge nurse.
Assists with the transfer of patients, equipment, supplies, or specimens.Physical Requirements
This role consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be capable of lifting and supporting weights of up to 35 pounds when handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficient spoken English is required. Must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with manual dexterity.
Education, Training, and Experience
A high school diploma or GED is required.
Completion of an approved Nurse Aide Training Program or being a student nurse meeting the listing requirements of the DFS Nurse Aide Registry is necessary.
Current listing with the DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide I is required. A Nurse Aide II listing is also acceptable. A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in Acute Care is preferred.Patient Population Served
Demonstrates understanding of the principles of growth and development, exhibiting skills and competencies appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.
Protected Health InformationAccess to protected health information (PHI) will be limited to what is reasonably necessary to perform job duties.
Information will be shared only on a need-to-know basis for work purposes.
Access to verbal, written, and electronic PHI for this role is determined based on job level and responsibilities within the organization.
Computerized access to PHI is controlled via user ID and password.
Machines, Tools, and EquipmentUtilizes various clinical equipment such as blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, thermometers, personal protective equipment, wheelchairs, stretchers, utility carts, along with a keyboard, computer terminal, printer, FAX machine, telephones, copier, intercom, and materials transport system.
