Clinical Nutrition Specialist

The Public Health Trust of Dade County is seeking a dedicated Clinical Nutrition Specialist.

Department: Nutrition Services

Position Overview:

The primary role of the Clinical Nutrition Specialist is to evaluate the dietary and nutritional requirements of patients across various age groups. This position involves developing and executing tailored nutritional care strategies, ensuring effective communication of dietary information through comprehensive documentation and collaboration with the healthcare team. The specialist is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based nutritional care and creating balanced meal plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess the nutritional needs of patients and initiate suitable dietary interventions based on established protocols.
  • Review and interpret medical orders for patient diets.
  • Formulate and implement individualized nutrition care plans based on patient assessments.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Educate patients and their families on nutritional requirements, dietary adjustments, and food interactions.
  • Work closely with the Food Service department to ensure the provision of nutritionally adequate menus and food options.
  • Conduct nutrition education sessions for patients, staff, and community groups.
  • Mentor new staff, dietetic interns, and volunteers in clinical practices.
  • Supervise the daily activities of support staff in the nutrition department.
  • Stay informed on the latest trends and research in nutrition.
  • Participate in departmental committees and initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards and hospital policies.
  • Provide guidance on nutrition-related inquiries from healthcare professionals and the community.
Qualifications:

Experience:
  • Typically requires 1-2 years of relevant experience in clinical nutrition.
Education:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is essential.
Skills:
  • Strong analytical and organizational abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations with professionalism.
  • Proficient in using relevant technology and software.
Credentials:
  • Registered Dietitian and Florida Licensure are mandatory.
  • Certification in a specialized area is highly desirable.
