Substation Equipment Engineer

Essential Qualifications:
A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSME) from an ABET-accredited institution is mandatory. Acceptable alternatives include (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License, or (2) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field (non-ABET) combined with an advanced degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited Bachelor's program.
Possession of a Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) License is preferred.
A minimum of three years of engineering experience is essential.
Candidates with prior experience in the design, maintenance, or testing of substation equipment will be given strong consideration. Familiarity with the understanding, application, and communication of microprocessor-based protection and control systems is advantageous.
Experience with SEL products and software, Enoserve RTS, and Doble testing is beneficial.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensuring a safe working environment for colleagues and the community by developing knowledge of potential hazards, industry regulations, and company practices.
- Commissioning new transmission substation equipment prior to its integration into transmission operations.
- Creating check-out guides, reviewing and approving test results and isolation plans, and developing energization strategies to minimize system risks.
- Providing limited field design services to resolve minor design issues encountered during the execution of substation capital projects.
- Offering onsite technical assistance to regional substation services personnel during preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
- Contributing to the development of new or modified maintenance practices to adapt to evolving technology, new equipment types, improved testing and diagnostic methods, and regulatory changes.
- Auditing preventive and corrective maintenance documentation and test results to ensure technical adequacy and regulatory compliance.
- Delivering emergency technical support following substation equipment failures to assist in customer restoration and system reinforcement, including developing field modifications and commissioning mobile substations.
- Conducting Apparent Cause and Root Cause analyses, including formally documenting findings through the preparation of technical reports and presentations.
