Essential Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSME) from an accredited institution is mandatory.
  • Acceptable alternatives include:
    • (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License,
    • (2) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field (non-accredited) along with an advanced degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an accredited Bachelor's program.
  • A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) License is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of three years of engineering experience is essential.
  • Candidates with prior experience in the design, maintenance, or testing of substation equipment will be given strong consideration.
  • Familiarity with microprocessor-based protection and control systems is advantageous.
  • Experience with SEL products and software, Enoserve RTS, and Doble testing is beneficial.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe working environment for colleagues and the community by developing an understanding of potential hazards, industry regulations, and company practices.
  • Commission new transmission substation equipment prior to its operational release.
  • Create check-out guides, review and approve test results and isolation plans, and develop energization strategies to mitigate system risks.
  • Provide limited field design assistance to resolve minor design issues encountered during the execution of substation capital projects.
  • Offer onsite technical support to regional substation service teams during maintenance activities.
  • Assist in the development of new or modified maintenance practices to adapt to evolving technology, new equipment types, and regulatory changes.
  • Conduct audits of preventive and corrective maintenance documentation and test results to ensure technical adequacy and regulatory compliance.
  • Deliver emergency technical support following substation equipment failures to aid in customer restoration and system reinforcement, including field modifications and commissioning mobile substations.
  • Perform Apparent Cause and Root Cause analyses, formally documenting findings through technical reports and presentations.
