We are seeking a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant to undertake complex professional financial and accounting responsibilities within the Financial Reporting Section. This role will involve coordinating accounting activities to ensure timely and precise reconciliations, preparation of financial analyses and reports, and establishing robust accounting procedures and controls. The selected candidate will assist in the preparation of the ERS Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) while working under the limited supervision of the Financial Reporting Supervisor, allowing for significant initiative and independent judgment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and/or prepare, process, and audit general journal entries, including the monthly state retirement contribution draw and agency contributions ledger corrections.
  • Monitor and reconcile agency default funds, pension and benefits appropriation budgets, and interest accounts.
  • Ensure accuracy in the reconciliation of general ledger accounts related to Retirement/Pension funds and other financial arrangements.
  • Collaborate with State Agencies to address Retirement/Pension accounting discrepancies.
  • Assist in the preparation of the agency's ACFR, including year-end tasks.
  • Support the creation of monthly financial reports.
  • Engage in special projects and respond to ad-hoc reporting requests from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a backup for essential team functions.
  • Conduct data entry and reconciliations of accounting transactions within ERS financial systems.
  • Compile and prepare information for Legislative Budget Board Reporting and other fiscal certifications.
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures for the Financial Reporting Section.

Minimum Qualifications:

Your application must demonstrate how you meet the following minimum qualifications:

  1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field is preferred. Additional work experience may substitute for college credit.
  2. Two (2) years of experience in accounting or financial analysis, including experience with general ledger entries and financial report generation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  2. Familiarity with GASB/FASB implementation and compliance.
  3. Experience with PeopleSoft Financials.
  4. Accounting experience with a Texas state agency or knowledge of the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
