Position Overview: We are seeking a Financial Reporting Accountant to undertake complex professional financial and accounting tasks within the Financial Reporting Section. This role will involve coordinating accounting activities to ensure accurate reconciliations, preparation of financial analyses and reports, and maintaining accounting procedures and controls. The selected candidate will work under limited supervision, allowing for initiative and independent judgment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and prepare general journal entries, including monthly state retirement contributions and agency ledger corrections.
  • Monitor and reconcile agency funds, pension budgets, and interest accounts.
  • Ensure accuracy in general ledger accounts related to Retirement/Pension funds and other financial arrangements.
  • Collaborate with State Agencies to resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Assist in the preparation of the agency's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and fiscal year-end tasks.
  • Support the creation of monthly financial reports.
  • Contribute to special projects and ad-hoc reporting needs.
  • Provide backup for essential team functions.
  • Perform data entry and reconciliations in the financial systems.
  • Compile information for legislative reporting and agency fiscal certifications.
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures for the Financial Reporting Section.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field is preferred. Additional work experience may substitute for educational requirements.
  • Two years of experience in accounting or financial analysis, including creating general ledger entries and generating financial reports.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in maintaining an accounting system.
  • Knowledge of GASB/FASB compliance.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft Financials.
  • Accounting experience with a Texas state agency or the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
