As a Safety Consultant, you will offer expert guidance on achieving compliance with machine safety regulations. This role requires a deep understanding of safety principles and standards, alongside a robust background in safety controls engineering.

Your responsibilities will include visiting client locations to perform risk assessments, generating safety reports, leading safety design evaluations, conducting safety validations, and coordinating various safety initiatives.

All Safety Consultants report directly to the Principal Safety Consultant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert direction and leadership to clients on all matters related to machine safety.
  • Communicate machinery safety knowledge effectively, both in writing and verbally.
  • Conduct Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments, producing detailed reports for clients.
  • Identify potential hazards on machinery (e.g., exposed gears or chains).
  • Evaluate machine safety compliance according to standards such as IEC 61508, EN, ISO 13849, ISO 14121, ISO 12100, UL 508, IEC 62061, and OSHA regulations.
  • Offer internal support regarding the application of Pilz products to ensure compliance with relevant safety standards.
  • Represent Pilz in various safety standards committees.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions on safety standards for both internal and external audiences.
  • Assist in the creation of tools (e.g., software) to enhance Pilz service offerings.
  • Support the Pilz Sales team as required.
  • Interpret U.S. and international regulations to ensure machinery meets industry standards and directives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable safety standards.
  • Conduct functional testing of machinery and electrical equipment across diverse industries, including semiconductor, battery, tooling, and robotics.
  • Assist clients in achieving CE Marking for their machinery by assessing, preparing test plans, drafting test reports, and facilitating certification.
  • Evaluate electrical circuits to determine safety performance levels and categories.
  • Mentor new Safety Consultants and Safety Engineers.
  • Facilitate meetings and document discussions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements: Up to 50% travel may be necessary; options for bonuses or compensatory time are available.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Engineering or a related field, along with three to five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical and control schematics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to solve and verify mathematical formulas as outlined in IEC 61508 and ISO 13849.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint.
  • Capable of working independently when necessary.
  • Willingness to learn about Pilz products and procedures.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and a team player.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering.
  • Expertise in electrical controls with a focus on safety.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business reports and professional journals.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with safety standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 13849, and ANSI B11.
  • Understanding of the risk assessment process.
  • Ability to read and comprehend fluid power circuits.
  • Knowledge of packaging, industrial, and food & beverage machinery.
  • Understanding of Process Control systems.
