As a Safety Consultant, you will provide expert guidance on achieving compliance with machine safety regulations. This role requires a deep understanding of safety principles and standards, coupled with a robust background in safety controls engineering.
Your responsibilities will include visiting client locations to perform risk assessments, generate safety reports, lead safety design evaluations, and validate safety measures. You will also assist in developing safety concepts and coordinate various safety initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer leadership and direction to clients regarding machine safety concerns.
- Communicate machinery safety knowledge effectively, both in writing and verbally.
- Conduct Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments, producing detailed reports for clients.
- Identify potential hazards in machinery (e.g., exposed gears or chains).
- Assess machine safety compliance with standards such as IEC 61508, EN, ISO 13849, and OSHA regulations.
- Provide internal guidance on the application of Pilz products to ensure compliance with relevant safety standards.
- Represent the company in various safety standards committees.
- Develop and deliver training sessions on safety standards for both internal staff and external clients.
- Assist in creating tools (e.g., software) to enhance Pilz service offerings.
- Support the sales team with safety-related inquiries.
- Interpret U.S. and international regulations to ensure machinery meets industry standards.
- Stay updated on applicable safety standards.
- Test the safety of machinery and electrical equipment across diverse industries, including semiconductor and robotics.
- Assist clients in achieving CE Marking for their machines by evaluating and preparing test plans and reports.
- Evaluate electrical circuits to assess safety performance levels.
- Mentor new Safety Consultants and Engineers.
- Facilitate meetings and document discussions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Travel Requirements: Up to 50% travel may be necessary; compensation or time off may be available.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Engineering or a related field, along with three to five years of practical experience or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Proficient in reading electrical and control schematics.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to solve and verify mathematical formulas as outlined in IEC 61508 and ISO 13849.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint.
- Capable of working independently when required.
- Eager to learn about Pilz products and procedures.
- Self-motivated, organized, and a team player.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering.
- Expertise in electrical controls with a focus on safety.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business reports and professional journals.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with safety standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 13849, and ANSI B11.
- Understanding of the risk assessment process.
- Ability to read and comprehend fluid power circuits.
- Knowledge of packaging, industrial, and food & beverage machinery.
- Understanding of Process Control systems.
