POSITION SUMMARY:


Under the supervision of a Sector Sergeant, this role is responsible for delivering law enforcement and security services to educational institutions, their premises, and surrounding areas; investigating reported criminal activities in accordance with established policies and procedures; enforcing applicable state and local regulations; making necessary referrals to juvenile court and/or relevant agencies; and working proactively to deter juvenile delinquency through positive engagement with students. This position also involves developing crime prevention initiatives and conducting security assessments to mitigate criminal or delinquent behavior; analyzing crime data and collaborating with local law enforcement and students to formulate effective crime prevention strategies; and fostering a strong partnership with school leadership to ensure a secure educational environment.


This position reports to the Sector Sergeant.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain a visible presence within the school community. Participate in school events and activities. Cultivate professional relationships with school staff, students, and parent organizations. Design and implement educational programs focused on law-related topics to support the academic objectives of the faculty. Collaborate closely with educators to develop and present law-related content and discuss the role of law enforcement in society.


Conduct regular patrols of designated facilities, including buildings, parking areas, and district-owned or leased equipment; operate security systems, including alarms and surveillance equipment, as necessary.

Ensure security for crowd and vehicle management during extracurricular activities and special events.


Collaborate with guidance counselors and other support personnel to assist students and provide necessary services for those requiring referrals to external agencies.

Facilitate conflict resolution efforts. Engage with students in classrooms and common areas of the school. Promote the law enforcement profession and serve as a positive role model. Enhance the visibility and accessibility of law enforcement within the school community.

Assist other law enforcement agencies with incidents that may affect student or site safety. Perform all other duties as assigned to fulfill the responsibilities outlined above.



KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A High School Diploma/GED is required; a college degree is preferred.


A minimum of three (3) years of successful law enforcement experience is required with a High School Diploma/GED, or at least two (2) years of successful law enforcement experience with a college degree.

Make decisions that primarily impact the assigned department and often affect other departments.

Must be at least 21 years of age. Must hold a valid Georgia P.O.S.T. certification. Peace Officer's certification must be in good standing without any current investigations. A valid Georgia Driver's License is required.


Must demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking skills to resolve various issues that arise in the school environment; effective communication with both the public and school personnel is essential; extensive verbal and written communication with students, staff, and internal/external stakeholders is required; responsible for managing the behavior of victims, witnesses, and others during incidents; requires sound judgment; ability to work effectively with youth and adults; capability to teach short courses to youth and adults.

Requires the ability to communicate professionally and effectively with others.

Requires the ability to read a variety of professional, technical, and administrative documents related to law enforcement.

Requires the ability to write reports and documents with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.

Requires the ability to present information clearly and confidently in front of others.

Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and other office equipment such as incident reporting software, fax machines, copiers, and scanners.

Requires extensive safety training and/or protective equipment.


May occasionally need to subdue offenders using the minimum force necessary to ensure safety.

Coordinate security for crowd and vehicle management during extracurricular activities and special events. Monitor and guide students, visitors, and district personnel on appropriate and lawful behavior on campus or within facilities.

Frequent standing and walking are required. Requires reaching and extending hands and arms in various directions.

Requires good hearing and vision, including distinguishing colors and depth perception for assessing distances.



NOTE:

This position is compensated according to the SRO salary scale and is a 205-day position that recognizes experience up to a Step 8.
