Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all legal operations concerning Fnality Services.
  • Provide counsel to Directors, Board Members, and Senior Management.
  • Formulate long-term strategies with senior leadership to align the company's goals within a defensible legal and regulatory framework, addressing a variety of legal and regulatory challenges, particularly in financial regulation, strategic transactions, product commercialization, intellectual property, and data privacy.
  • Oversee the legal aspects of cross-border Payment versus Payment (PvP) initiatives.
  • Manage governance activities related to the Board and its committees.
  • Draft and prepare contracts, memoranda, and policy documents, leveraging your expertise and the diverse skills within our cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure the protection of the company's intellectual property and manage licensing arrangements for product commercialization.
  • Engage with central banks, regulators, business partners, and other external stakeholders in meetings.
  • Negotiate and review contracts with vendors and prospective business partners.
  • Collaborate with the in-house legal team to deliver high-quality legal services, including coordination with external legal experts across major financial hubs.
  • Contribute to the development of legal risk policies and promote awareness within the organization.
  • Assist in navigating new markets with varying legal frameworks.
  • Prepare legal documents and arguments, identifying precedents to support the company's decisions.
  • Advise on dispute resolution involving the company.
  • Oversee the provision of specialized legal and regulatory advice from external consultants.
  • Keep the organization informed about relevant new laws and regulations.

Essential Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of professional experience in a law firm or corporate legal department, focusing on financial regulatory matters or the commercialization of innovative payment solutions, particularly those utilizing blockchain technology.
  • A strong interest in the intersection of law, regulation, and emerging technologies within global financial markets.
  • Experience in dynamic, innovative environments where legal professionals address complex business challenges rather than isolated legal issues.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional setting.
  • Knowledge of various interrelated legal topics such as corporate law, intellectual property, technology, data privacy, and competition law is advantageous.
  • Experience managing external legal firms to achieve optimal outcomes for the organization.

We operate in a remote-first environment, but due to the responsibilities of this role, attendance at our London office will be necessary for specific stakeholder meetings.

Fnality Global Payments:

We are creating a new global network of wholesale payment systems designed to facilitate tokenized, peer-to-peer markets.

Fnality Global Payments (FnGP) will consist of a series of national systems, each regulated within its jurisdiction, referred to as Fnality Payment Systems (FnPS).

In each system, a Fnality settlement asset will serve as the payment asset for various transaction needs.

FnGP is supported by Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), enabling:

  • True peer-to-peer market operations.
  • Immediate settlement capabilities.
  • Interoperability across platforms and jurisdictions.
