We are seeking a Regulatory Legal Director to navigate complex legal landscapes and help shape the future of digital communication as we build the Everything App.

The Regulatory Legal Director will be pivotal in leading our regulatory efforts across all markets. You will work closely with internal teams to ensure our products and policies comply with local and international laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have expertise in digital media, content regulation, artificial intelligence and ideally, payments and financial services regulation. You will guide our strategic decisions and foster effective mitigation of legal risk, support our Free Speech principles, and enable the business to move at speed in a compliant way.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of legal professionals.
  • Contribute to the development of the global regulatory strategy that aligns with our company's objectives
  • Work in collaboration with X's Compliance Function, Product Counsel and other legal and business teams in the review, implementation and monitoring of the DMA, DSA, UK OSA and other similar international laws.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including colleagues across Legal, Product, Safety, Engineering and Policy, to ensure that new products, features, and initiatives comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to Global Compliance team, including the DSA Compliance Officer
  • Monitor global regulatory developments in social media and digital platforms, triaging and prioritizing laws, analyzing impacts and advising on necessary actions.
  • Support policy colleagues in their engagement with policymakers, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders to advocate for policies that support innovation and free expression, while balancing regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with Litigation in responses to regulatory inquiries, investigations, and audits.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal qualification, with admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 10 years' legal experience, with a strong preference for backgrounds in technology and digital media law, particularly in a multinational environment.
  • Proven track record of managing global regulatory issues, including content regulation,
  • Excellent leadership skills and experience managing a team.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and engage effectively with senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of the social media landscape and the regulatory environment globally.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in English. Additional languages are a plus.
