Position Summary:

The Transport Assistant collaborates closely with our Drivers to ensure a secure, comfortable, and pleasant travel experience for all passengers, particularly those who are wheelchair or stretcher dependent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the loading and unloading of passengers.
  • Ensure that wheelchairs and stretchers are properly secured using 4-point tie downs.
  • Help passengers with seatbelts and other safety devices to guarantee their safety.
  • Provide information about schedules, stops, and routes as needed.
  • Address special requests and support passengers with disabilities or those needing extra assistance.
  • Monitor passenger behavior to ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers and supervisors to coordinate operations.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and unexpected situations, following established protocols.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, addressing passenger inquiries and concerns with professionalism.
  • Ensure that all necessary equipment for passenger assistance is available and in good condition.
  • Participate in training sessions and meetings to enhance job-specific knowledge and skills.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to improve the overall passenger experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a clean criminal record and pass a drug screening.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in customer service or a related role.
  • Familiarity with safety and emergency protocols.
  • First Aid, AED, and CPR certification is preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to assist passengers with courtesy and efficiency.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 150 pounds.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Patience and empathy towards passengers with physical and mental disabilities.
  • Good problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to bend, lift, and sit for extended periods.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to follow instructions.
  • Attention to detail and cleanliness.

Working Conditions:

This role requires the Transport Assistant to be a passenger in a moving vehicle for the majority of the time. While the vehicle offers some protection from the elements, exposure to various weather conditions is common. Additionally, contact with bodily fluids may occur.
