About Express Medical Transporters: Since our inception in 1996, we have been committed to providing compassionate, safe, and timely transportation services. Our mission is to assist every passenger, regardless of their disabilities or challenges, in reaching their desired destinations. We proudly serve a variety of organizations within the St. Louis, Missouri metropolitan area and its neighboring regions, including schools, hospitals, and medical offices, as well as providing transport for individuals and families.

Position Overview:

As a Transport Assistant, you will collaborate closely with our Drivers to ensure a secure, comfortable, and positive travel experience for all passengers, especially those who are wheelchair or stretcher-bound.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the loading and unloading of passengers.
  • Ensure that wheelchairs and stretchers are securely fastened using 4-point tie downs.
  • Support passenger safety by assisting with seatbelts and other safety equipment.
  • Provide passengers with information regarding schedules, stops, and routes as necessary.
  • Address special requests and assist passengers with disabilities or those needing additional support.
  • Monitor passenger behavior to ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers and supervisors to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Respond to emergencies and unexpected situations according to established protocols.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, addressing passenger inquiries and concerns with professionalism.
  • Ensure all necessary equipment for passenger assistance is available and in proper working condition.
  • Participate in training sessions and meetings to enhance job-specific knowledge and skills.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve the overall passenger experience.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a clean criminal record and successfully pass a drug screening.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in customer service or a similar capacity.
  • Familiarity with safety and emergency protocols.
  • First Aid, AED, and CPR certification is preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to assist passengers with courtesy and efficiency.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 150 pounds.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Demonstrated patience and empathy towards passengers with physical and mental disabilities.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to bend, lift, and sit for extended periods.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to follow instructions.
  • Attention to detail and cleanliness.

Working Conditions:

This role requires the Transport Assistant to be a passenger in a moving vehicle for the majority of the time. While the vehicle offers some protection from the elements, frequent exposure to various weather conditions such as wind, rain, snow, and high heat is expected. Additionally, exposure to bodily fluids may occur.
