Position Overview

Role Summary:

The Youth Support Services Coordinator is responsible for delivering comprehensive case management services to participants in the DOL/GO program. This includes conducting initial assessments, developing tailored support plans, and monitoring progress throughout the program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with young individuals aged 18–24, utilizing core competencies such as motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Provide all necessary program components and services to participants, excluding job development.
  • Act as a mentor, offering one-on-one and small group guidance on problem-solving, coping strategies, and life challenges.
  • Lead conflict resolution training, which encompasses 25 hours of classroom instruction and skills development in areas like active listening and de-escalation techniques.
  • Collaborate with regional justice partners and employment service providers to facilitate referrals and support services.
  • Conduct thorough intake assessments for all assigned participants.
  • Prepare and maintain Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for participants, ensuring regular updates and progress monitoring.
  • Assist participants in securing full-time employment post-program and guide them in applying for educational opportunities.
  • Document all services and progress in participant files, including counseling sessions and referral outcomes.
  • Utilize the Apricot System for accurate data entry and record-keeping throughout the program.
  • Meet quarterly with mentors to align support strategies with participants' IDPs.
  • Make referrals to external agencies as needed to enhance participant support.
  • Develop post-completion plans that align with the goals outlined in the IDP.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with program coordinators, community-based organizations, and participants.
  • Ensure comprehensive case records and statistical data are maintained for all participants.
  • Participate in workshops, meetings, and training sessions as required.
  • May take on additional responsibilities as a Community Advocate as directed by leadership.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences or a related field; or a high school diploma with at least two years of experience working with justice-involved populations.

Preferred:

  • Experience in counseling individuals involved in the criminal justice system.

Certifications:

Required: Valid California Driver's License.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of the impacts of long-term incarceration on individuals.
  • Ability to recognize and appreciate individual differences influenced by various factors.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Commitment to ethical behavior and maintaining participant confidentiality.
  • Willingness to engage in community-building activities relevant to the role.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds.
  • Capacity to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure.

Work Environment:

Typically in a remote or indoor office setting with moderate noise levels and varying temperatures.
