Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Human Resources/Benefits Specialist to join our team at the South Portland School Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all benefits activities and contributing to the operations of the Business Office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the school's benefit packages, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and LTD.
  • Serve as liaison to all providers and communicate necessary information.
  • Conduct new employee orientations and ensure employees are informed of pertinent salary and benefit information.
  • Meet with employees to discuss benefits-related matters.
  • Manage open enrollment periods for all employees and vendors.
  • Coordinate and serve as liaison for all aspects of Workers Compensation and Safety/Compliance.
  • File injury reports and monitor claims, lost time, work restrictions, and duty modifications.
  • Maintain OSHA record keeping and reporting.
  • Maintain publicly posted employment posters.
  • Attend meetings and represent the district at unemployment compensation, workers' compensation, and labor department hearings as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with federal/state employment laws and human resource programs and policies.
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of human resource-related experience.
  • Professional Human Resource Certification and/or school experience preferred.
  • Valid DOE fingerprinting certification (CHRC).
Working Conditions

The position requires the ability to work in an office setting with occasional walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions.
