Job Title: Chief Financial Officer

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the Honolulu Museum of Arts (HoMA) leadership team, responsible for effectively managing the museum's financial strategy and overseeing its overall financial health.

As a strategic advisor, the CFO provides business and risk management support to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director and CEO, the Board, and the Leadership team.

The CFO oversees an operating budget of approximately $17M and an endowment of approximately $90M, ensuring the financial health of the museum and conducting proper reporting of income, expenses, and assets.

The CFO leads the finance team in working effectively throughout HoMA, creating a strong culture of partnership and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement annual and multi-year financial plans to support the museum's strategic vision
  • Monitor plan performance against budget and provide financial analysis and reporting
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of financial policies, procedures, and processes
  • Maintain accounting control over the museum's operating and restricted endowments
  • Provide strategic leadership, management, and oversight to the Finance Department
  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Finance and Investment Committee and the Audit Committee
  • Work with senior management to provide strategic guidance on financial implications of programming decisions and revenue opportunities

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
  • Ten years of applied knowledge in a senior financial leadership role in a philanthropic or nonprofit setting
  • Strong analytical and systemic thinking skills, with the ability to identify complex issues and analyze matters from multiple perspectives
  • Thorough knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls, as well as Not-For-Profit accounting, including taxes and audits
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, as well as general ledger accounting systems
  • Extensive knowledge of financial systems and prior experience leading strategic financial planning, financial and investment management, financial reporting, and cash flow management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
  • Five years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant
  • Experience with managing the finances of commercial activities, preferably food and beverage and retail
  • Experience with an Enterprise Management System or CRM and ensuring effective use of systems
  • Experience in KPI development and reporting
