Clinical Laboratory Specialist II

This role is responsible for executing both standard and complex laboratory tasks, which encompass specimen processing, testing of patient samples, result calculation and reporting, quality control execution, and the operation and upkeep of laboratory instruments and equipment. Additionally, the position may involve phlebotomy and other patient-related responsibilities, along with other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the OneCHRISTUS Competencies, demonstrating leadership qualities appropriate to the role.
- Conduct all routine and advanced laboratory procedures relevant to the assigned section, considering age and sex-specific values.
- Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, performing minor repairs or coordinating with technical support as necessary.
- Participate in cross-training across various laboratory sections as required.
- Ensure compliance with the laboratory's quality control protocols.
- Calculate, input, and verify laboratory results accurately.
- Utilize the Laboratory Information System effectively.
- Document and communicate critical laboratory findings promptly.
- Handle patient specimens with care, ensuring proper collection and distribution, particularly for pediatric samples.
- Engage in the assessment, development, and implementation of new or revised testing protocols.
- Exhibit competence in performing patient care tasks that align with the specific needs of the patient population served.
- Adapt assessment and treatment methods to meet the diverse physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs of patients.
- Uphold the CORE values of CHRISTUS Health in all interactions.
- Complete all mandatory compliance and regulatory responsibilities, adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A. Education and Skills:
- A Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant scientific field from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience as defined by regulatory standards.
OR
- Education evaluated by a recognized credentialing agency as equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
B. Experience:
- No prior experience is necessary for graduates from an accredited clinical laboratory training program.
OR
- One year of relevant clinical laboratory experience, including rotations in key laboratory sections within the last five years.
C. Certifications:
- Certification as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Technician from a recognized body.
- Maintain current certification if it has an expiration date.
- New graduates must achieve Board Certification within one year of employment, with specific exceptions.
Work Schedule:
Night shift from 10 PM to 7 AM, 8-hour shifts.
