Overview:

Accountable for the direct management of daily laboratory operations and testing within the assigned section, including oversight of staffing, protocols, policies, and quality enhancement initiatives. Collaborates with fellow section leaders to achieve departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities:


• Uphold the standards of the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

• Organize, plan, direct, evaluate, and oversee all laboratory functions within the designated section, which encompasses outreach services, computer operations, pre- and post-analytical testing, associate safety, and inventory management.

• Provide vital leadership and administrative support to laboratory personnel.

• Ensure that care standards align with the CHRISTUS Health Mission and comply with all regulatory requirements.

• Collaborate closely with hospital administration to facilitate the achievement of departmental goals.

• Foster the professional development of associates and spearhead process improvement initiatives to maintain high-quality, cost-effective services while ensuring satisfaction among patients, physicians, and staff.

• Support CHRISTUS Health by undertaking additional responsibilities as mutually agreed upon to ensure the effective operation of the organization.

Qualifications:

A. Education/Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience as defined by CLIA regulations. OR Education evaluated by an acceptable credentialing agency as equivalent to a US Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. OR Meets the educational criteria for a Medical Laboratory Technician II (MLT-II).

B. Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of full-time primary laboratory experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) in moderate/high complexity testing for the specific area of responsibility is required.
  • Preferred: 5 years of full-time primary laboratory experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) in moderate/high complexity testing for the specific area of responsibility.

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Must hold certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS.
  • If certification has an expiration date, it must be maintained and kept current.
  • State licensure is required in certain locations.
