Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Operations Specialist supports professionals in executing routine operational tasks specific to the oil and gas sector. This role is pivotal in managing well operations, conducting well tests, and overseeing the functionality of field equipment and facilities. The specialist provides operational support based on their area of expertise, which may include calibrating equipment, performing routine troubleshooting, and possessing a foundational understanding of POC and Well Analyzer systems. The position requires working independently or collaboratively to enhance production efficiency while ensuring safety and cost-effectiveness. Utilizing data, the specialist will be expected to make informed recommendations for optimizing well performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor general field operations and maintain various databases related to production activities.
  • Provide technical and mechanical support to production teams as needed.
  • Prepare tickets, work orders, records, and administrative reports to analyze trends and support recommendations.
  • Gather field data, assess it, and propose strategies for well optimization.
  • Understand oil and gas flow operations and the associated equipment.
  • Ensure that all work assignments are executed with the highest quality and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with operators to schedule and review specialist tasks.
  • Implement quality assurance processes with on-site contractors.
  • Timely preparation and management of work orders.
  • Identify and report any abnormal or hazardous conditions related to surface production equipment.
  • Conduct business with integrity and uphold ethical standards, ensuring the safety of all personnel involved with SM-Energy Company operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Technical Skills and Software Proficiency

Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with discipline-specific software as required by specialty areas, including:

  • Reservoir: Aries, HIS
  • Drilling: Well View, AFE
  • Completions: Well View
  • Facilities: Oceaneering ACET, eMaint CMMS, SCADA

Possess technical skills that facilitate adaptation to other related applications (AVM, SAP, Spotfire).

Role-Specific Knowledge & Skills

Basic understanding of industry terminology and technical knowledge is essential. The candidate must have the physical capability to respond promptly to emergencies, operate valves, and handle necessary tools and equipment. A valid motor vehicle record and license are required, along with the ability to climb heights of up to 30 feet. The role involves installing and/or removing equipment in compliance with applicable SWP, SOP, or technical procedures, as well as a basic working knowledge of downhole equipment.

Surveillance Room Responsibilities (OS II)

  • Evaluate production operations through remote monitoring of critical systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting production equipment by leveraging historical data and settings.
  • Prioritize critical alarms based on their potential impact on production operations.
  • Identify hazardous conditions at facilities via remote surveillance.
  • Maintain effective communication protocols with field and support teams.
  • Document observations systematically and quantify the value added by each finding.
  • Recognize the significance of Standard Operating Practices in daily operations within the Surveillance Room.

Education and Experience

A High School Diploma or Equivalent is required, with an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience is required, with oil and gas industry experience considered an advantage.
