Position: Field Operations Director

Location: Remote

Compensation: $140,000 - $160,000 base salary

The Field Operations Director is tasked with overseeing and managing all operational activities within the field and leading service personnel. This role encompasses various work disciplines, including substation technicians, relay technicians, field engineers, and personnel involved in transmission line and right-of-way services. The Director will also handle administrative managerial duties that support field operations, such as developing operational work plans, annual operations and maintenance (O&M) budgets, contract oversight, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise all field operations staff related to transmission lines, substations, and protection/control systems.
  • Provide clear guidance to local supervisory teams.
  • Coordinate switching and clearance operations effectively.
  • Review and authorize electrical isolation plans for maintenance activities.
  • Develop and manage annual O&M and capital maintenance budgets.
  • Create and oversee annual field operations work plans and outage schedules.
  • Initiate and manage ongoing and new maintenance contracts with external vendors.
  • Ensure safety qualifications and onboarding processes for contractors.
  • Oversee compliance with NERC requirements.
  • Generate performance reports on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Manage preventive and corrective work orders utilizing Oracle Fusion Cloud.
  • Support the implementation of asset management databases and maintenance programs.
  • Facilitate the development of training requirements for field staff.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders for project design reviews.
  • Maintain a database of operational events and issues, coordinating with stakeholders for resolutions.
  • Assist in the creation of standard operating procedures for various operational processes.
  • Prepare field staff for inspections and site visits.
  • Manage on-call schedules and overtime for field personnel.
  • Support inventory management for field operations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or Business is required. Other relevant degrees may be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years in field operations, engineering, or project management, preferably in substation or transmission environments.
  • Skills: Familiarity with ERCOT protocols, NERC compliance, and experience with substation and protection/control equipment.
  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license and Project Management Professional (PMP) certification are preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic AutoCAD principles.
  • Competencies: Strong communication, organizational skills, and the ability to manage remote teams effectively.
