Role Summary

As a Health & Safety Specialist, you will collaborate with a team of professionals to provide essential technical support for projects spanning multiple service lines and industries. This role offers the opportunity to engage in rewarding and innovative projects within a remote work environment, with travel requirements based on client needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of safety regulations, standards, and legal obligations, particularly OSHA General and Construction Industry standards, with the ability to interpret both federal and state regulations.
  • Evaluate workplace hazards and risks, recommending preventive strategies for mitigation while demonstrating a solid understanding of various industries and their associated dangers.
  • Conduct audits of existing health and safety programs and practices to identify compliance gaps, providing recommendations for enhancements to meet federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Design and assist in the implementation of safety management systems, crafting policies, procedures, and guidelines to foster safe practices and ensure thorough documentation across the organization.
  • Investigate root causes of systemic issues, analyze incidents, and propose corrective measures.
  • Apply ergonomic principles to ensure workspaces are optimized for safety and comfort.
  • Assess practices related to chemical handling, storage, and disposal, recommending protective measures to mitigate exposure risks.
  • Deliver training sessions, either in-person or remotely, including safety stand-downs and daily debriefs for both employees and management.
  • Create educational resources such as toolbox talks, compliance cheat sheets, and guidance documents.
  • Provide technical assistance on safety-related compliance projects to internal stakeholders across service lines, ensuring quality deliverables.
  • Foster positive relationships with client personnel through effective communication of safety recommendations and addressing any concerns.
  • Offer onsite health and safety support to manage daily tasks at client locations as required.
  • Assist organizations in enhancing their safety culture by tracking performance metrics, analyzing trends, and suggesting improvements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in safety sciences, environmental science, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in health and safety within industrial settings.
  • Willingness to travel out of state and overnight, with potential travel commitments of up to 70%.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote setting.
  • Proficient in managing multiple project activities within defined scope, budget, and schedule while adhering to quality standards.
  • Strong communication skills with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines when necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and technical writing skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant certifications such as ASP/CSP, CIH, CHMM, PE, or similar credentials are highly desirable.
  • Experience in maintaining corporate management standards, either as a consultant or an internal compliance officer, particularly in health and safety management systems (ISO is a plus).
  • Knowledge of construction industry standards related to scaffolding, fall protection, and equipment safety.
  • Experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments for chemical, biological, and physical agents.
  • Proficiency in air sampling, noise monitoring, and ergonomic assessments to evaluate workplace conditions.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data from monitoring activities, preparing detailed reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Experience in implementing effective engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize risk exposure.
