Position Overview:

This announcement is intended to recruit for various Instructional Support Specialist roles within the designated area. The highest level of these roles is Instructional Support Specialist III, with applications being accepted for lower levels (I and II) in case of recruitment challenges.


Compensation:

Instructional Support Specialist I, SR-10: $2,917.98 per month
Instructional Support Specialist II, SR-12: $3,150.28 per month
Instructional Support Specialist III, SR-14: $3,407.80 per month


Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Support Specialists deliver paraprofessional assistance in various capacities, including:

  • Independently executing a range of academic and non-academic instructional tasks within a classroom environment, adhering to established protocols and available resources.
  • Providing essential support services to students with disabilities and assisting educators in implementing educational and behavioral strategies.
  • Offering individualized academic, social, vocational, and daily living instruction to students with disabilities in both school and community contexts, fostering their independence.
  • Adapting to the diverse needs of students, demonstrating flexibility in providing support and assistance.
  • Participating as a member of the school support team, contributing to interventions designed to address specific academic, behavioral, or social challenges faced by students.

Educational Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a high school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent AND meet one of the following educational criteria:

  • 48 semester credits of baccalaureate-level coursework from an accredited institution recognized by the Hawaii Department of Education, including 3 credits in math and 3 in English.
  • An Associate in Arts (AA) or Science (AS) degree from an accredited institution, ensuring a minimum of 48 baccalaureate-level credits.
  • Successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment administered by the Education Testing Service (ETS).

Experience Requirements:

Applicants must have relevant experience as outlined below:

  • Educational Assistant I: 0 years of General Experience, 0 years of Specialized Experience.
  • Educational Assistant II: 1 year of General Experience, 0 years of Specialized Experience.
  • Educational Assistant III: 1 year of General Experience, 1 year of Specialized Experience.

General Experience:

Experience involving direct interaction with individuals, demonstrating the ability to provide and gather information, and accurately observe and report on various situations.


Specialized Experience:

Experience directly interacting with students, including managing student activities and ensuring order, while gaining familiarity with common academic, social, behavioral, and developmental challenges.


Additional Requirements:

Some positions may require a valid driver's license and the ability to lift and carry up to 65 pounds, or up to 100 pounds with assistance.


Substitutions for Experience:

Possession of a Certificate of Completion in Child Services or related fields may substitute for half a year of General Experience. Additional educational qualifications may also substitute for required experience based on specific criteria.
