Accountant I/II Operations Specialist

Job DescriptionHEMIC is seeking a highly skilled Accountant I/II to join our Finance and Accounting team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, claim payments, and fixed asset records. You will also be responsible for preparing journal entries, reviewing invoices and expense reports, and analyzing budget variances. In addition, you will assist in the development and implementation of accounting procedures and process standards. Key Responsibilities
  • Perform day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, claim payments, and fixed asset records.
  • Prepare journal entries and review invoices and expense reports.
  • Analyze budget variances and suggest process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of accounting procedures and process standards.
  • Collaborate with vendors and customers to resolve inquiries and discrepancies.
  • Support other internal teams and external partners with their accounting-related and operational needs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or comparable experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting, with a strong background in GAAP and statutory accounting procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, methods, theories, practices, and equipment, including data processing programs and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures, including identifying and analyzing internal controls.
  • Able to effectively communicate and build effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Enthusiastic learner with the desire and ability to learn and understand why you are doing things as opposed to merely following steps to complete.
  • Can meet required timelines and deadlines.
  • Collaborative and supportive team member.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
