Overview:

The role of a Manufacturing Process Engineer at NewMarket Corporation involves identifying and executing enhancements to workflows and methodologies that will boost production capacity, minimize expenses, and elevate safety and quality standards within our global supply chain manufacturing operations. This position requires troubleshooting current processes to enhance operational efficiency and on-stream time. Collaboration with operational teams and other members of the Unit Operating Teams is essential. The engineer will also seek opportunities to enhance mechanical and instrumentation reliability while employing process improvement strategies to bolster NewMarket's profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the performance and quality of production units, identifying deviations from standards and initiating corrective measures.
  • Analyze existing processes and implement corrective actions to enhance operational efficiency and on-stream time.
  • Identify and execute enhancements to workflows and procedures that will increase capacity, reduce manufacturing costs, and improve safety and quality in chemical production.
  • Provide technical support for plant trials and startups.
  • Draft operating procedures and deliver training to chemical operators.
  • Recommend modifications in programming logic to enhance process safety, quality, or production efficiency.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of process equipment utilized in the plants, including reactors, agitators, heat exchangers, pumps, and filters.
  • Prepare and secure approvals for Manufacturing Change Requests (MCRs) and Process Change Forms (PCFs) to support process enhancements.
  • Participate in Potential Problem Analysis (PPA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) teams.
  • Create Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and conduct mass and energy balances for modified processes.
  • Develop project scopes for minor capital projects.
  • Specify new process equipment and update equipment specification sheets, collaborating with vendors and operations for selection.
  • Conduct data and statistical analyses to inform processing decisions.
  • Provide supervisory relief in production units as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
