Position Overview

This role is responsible for overseeing the overall expenses and performance of Owens & Minor's transportation network, aiming to minimize costs while enhancing efficiency across designated regions. The position involves managing relationships with dedicated contract carriage partners to ensure they meet customer expectations and drive key performance indicators. Collaboration with Area and Distribution Center Leadership is essential to develop and implement transportation strategies, including fleet management, route optimization, carrier selection, and performance metrics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the cost and operational efficiency of the dedicated fleet within the assigned region, ensuring optimal equipment utilization and adherence to customer requirements.
  • Formulate a transportation strategy aimed at reducing overall delivery costs while enhancing productivity and customer service standards.
  • Establish a common carrier strategy to engage reliable and cost-effective carriers, including participation in regular business reviews.
  • Design and implement a management system based on Key Performance Indicators to assess and enhance delivery performance, asset utilization, and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with Distribution Center Operations to support both routine and strategic initiatives.
  • Manage relationships with transportation vendors and carriers servicing the assigned regions.
  • Work closely with Implementation and Commercial Teams to ensure successful transitions for all customers.
  • Participate in transportation sourcing initiatives led by the Transportation Procurement Team as a regional representative, covering various transportation modes.
  • Adhere to all Department of Transportation regulations, safety standards, and policies.
  • Stay informed about regulatory changes affecting the management of the dedicated fleet and communicate relevant updates to corporate and divisional leadership.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; focus in transportation, supply chain, or logistics preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in transportation operations; prior supervisory or management experience is preferred.
  • Proven expertise in Transportation Management System (TMS) planning and optimization.
  • Strong communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated success in reducing costs and enhancing asset-based transportation networks across multiple locations.
  • Experience managing multiple sites with inbound and outbound services.
  • Ability to analyze the regional transportation network and effectively present findings to management.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in motivating and directing teams across various facilities.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills; proficient in MS Word and Excel.
