Position Overview: The Library Assistant - Circulation plays a vital role in delivering information, guidance, and support to library users regarding library services, protocols, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to both patrons and colleagues. Address and resolve inquiries or issues raised by library users.
  • Welcome visitors and foster a friendly and inviting library environment.
  • Manage the check-in and check-out of materials, update and maintain user accounts, organize materials on shelves, and assist users in locating resources.
  • Support patrons in navigating the catalog and requesting items. Offer reading suggestions and book recommendations.
  • Handle the processing and labeling of new materials; assist in repairing damaged library items.
  • Contribute to creating book displays to encourage library engagement.
  • Engage in the library's continuous professional development training program.
Additional Duties:
  • Assist with library events or outreach initiatives as necessary.
  • Rearrange furniture and equipment as required.
  • Be available for evening and weekend shifts as needed.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma; 1-2 years of experience in a library or customer service role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Competent in using computers, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and office machinery.

  • Must be capable of reaching, bending, stooping, carrying, moving, and lifting objects weighing up to 10 lbs. regularly.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must be able to travel up to 5% of the time.
