POSITION: Aquatic Safety Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Public Services

DIVISION: Recreation

WORK LOCATION: Lorin Farr Swimming Pool

WORK HOURS: Shifts are flexible and can be discussed during the interview process. Typically, hours range from 5 to 29 per week, with availability required on weekends and holidays. Shifts may include mornings, afternoons, and evenings. The facility operates daily, with potential for additional hours during swimming lessons and private events.

  • Seasonal Position: March through October
COMPENSATION:
  • Aquatic Safety Supervisor: $14.00 per hour, based on prior experience.
  • Aquatic Safety Personnel: $13.00 per hour, based on prior experience.
CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITY:

Obtain or renew your lifeguard certification through Ogden City Recreation.

Certification costs $100.00, which includes the rental of the hard copy of the training manual. The manual is also available online at no cost.

Successful candidates who complete the certification and maintain employment for the entire season will be reimbursed the certification fee.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Must possess a valid Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or successfully complete the Ogden City Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program post-interview.
  • All candidates must pay for the certification at least one week prior to training.
  • For Head Lifeguard: Minimum age requirement is 17 years.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform lifeguard duties effectively and responsibly.
  • Monitor patrons to ensure safety and compliance with facility rules.
  • Enforce regulations and policies with professionalism and respect.
  • Respond to emergencies, providing first aid and CPR as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents and water quality.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the pool area.
  • Assist in the setup and takedown of pool equipment.
  • Report safety concerns promptly to management.
  • Foster positive relationships with patrons and staff.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Attend all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Support fellow lifeguards and staff as needed.
  • Contribute to planning and operational discussions for the aquatic area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Additional Responsibilities for Head Lifeguard:
    • Provide close supervision and support to lifeguards.
    • Ensure effective safety measures are in place and monitor pool activities.
    • Oversee the completion of staff responsibilities.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to lift individuals from the water (average weight 150 lbs).
  • Physical capability to handle weights of 20 pounds frequently, 50 pounds occasionally, and 150+ pounds rarely.
  • Ability to perform all physical skills required for lifeguard certifications.
  • Must be able to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Good hearing is essential for performing job duties.
  • Physical activities may include climbing, balancing, and crouching.
  • Must be able to safely navigate heights up to 8 feet.
  • Work may involve exposure to various environmental conditions.
