Role Responsibilities
As a Traffic Control Technician, you will uphold AWP's core values and mission to safeguard our clients' personnel, businesses, and time. Your duties will include directing the flow of vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic through work zones using hand signals and a STOP/SLOW Paddle. You will review, understand, and implement temporary traffic control plans and/or standards to ensure that work zones are set up and maintained correctly. You will also coordinate and communicate with clients to guarantee the safety of all personnel involved.
Key Responsibilities
• Establish, maintain, and dismantle Advance Warning Signs, Channelizing Devices, and other traffic control equipment in accordance with Federal, State, and/or Local Temporary Traffic Control Guidelines and Plans for simple to intermediate complexity work zones.
• Operate a Flagger Station by standing and managing road users through the use of hand signals with a STOP/SLOW Paddle.
• Drive a company vehicle to transport equipment, trailers, and team members to and from job sites safely and punctually. May also include towing lightweight trailered equipment.
• Maintain effective radio communication with team members on-site.
• Adhere to all company safety protocols and practices.
• Inform Supervisor of any potential safety concerns or incidents.
• Complete required training within the timeframe set by the Project Manager or Facility Manager.
• Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and mentorship to new team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Traffic Control Technician (TCT) Certification or 2000+ verifiable hours required. High School Diploma or GED completion required. Prior experience in temporary traffic control services, utility, or construction industries preferred. Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills. Intermediate computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and customer relationship management systems. Ability to adhere to safe workplace practices. Valid Driver's License with no suspensions or revocations.Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Employees must be capable of managing the physical demands of this role, which include:
- Variable hours of operation based on staffing needs.
- Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
- Regular exposure to extreme conditions at job sites, including high noise levels.
- Working outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Lifting or carrying objects up to 50 pounds.
- Standing for extended periods and performing strenuous physical tasks under challenging field conditions.
- Good manual dexterity and coordination required.
