Position Overview

The Clinical Psychologist is tasked with delivering psychological care to patients within the hospital and outpatient facilities, alongside engaging in research, educational programs, and advocacy efforts as directed by the Division or Center leadership.

Essential Qualifications

Educational Background
Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) or PhD in Clinical or Developmental Psychology (Mandatory)

Professional Experience
0 years Successful completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology (Mandatory).
3 years Experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary team and engaging with families from diverse backgrounds. Experience in a pediatric academic environment. Proven involvement in collaborative research focusing on early childhood. Interest in educational roles and supervision (Preferred).

Core Competencies
Expertise in contemporary principles, methodologies, and interventions for psychological service delivery, including assessment and treatment in the specified area of expertise. Familiarity with legal and ethical standards governing psychological care.
Capacity to independently assess patient issues and formulate care plans.
Ability to integrate ethical considerations into patient interactions and discuss these with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Capability to mentor, guide, and train clinical professionals and/or students in the relevant field.
Commitment to maintaining quality and safety standards.
Demonstrates a dedication to Continuing Education and stays informed on advancements in the subspecialty.
Adherence to legal and ethical standards in psychological service delivery.

Licenses and Certifications Required
Licensed Psychologist in Washington, DC. Fully credentialed psychologist at Children's National Medical Center. Upon Hire (Mandatory).

  • Deliver clinical services to patients at designated facilities in a professional, ethical, and timely manner.
  • Oversee the medical care team and manage direct patient care for a defined patient demographic; enhance continuity of care, customer service, and collaboration with community healthcare providers through prompt documentation and communication.
  • Provide on-call services as determined by the Division Chief.
  • Actively engage in family-centered care, communicating with empathy and professionalism; refer patients to specialists and relevant ancillary services as necessary.
  • Utilize the established chain of command and escalation procedures appropriately.
  • Respond to colleagues and external providers promptly and respectfully; clearly communicate expectations regarding patient updates and significant clinical changes to trainees, encouraging inquiries.

  • Engage in advocacy initiatives within CNMC.
  • Contribute scholarly efforts to advance public policy promoting pediatric health and well-being.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment, prevention, and care enhancement strategies.
  • Participate in health promotion, education, and prevention initiatives.

  • Conduct impactful research in clinical and translational science relevant to the practice specialty.
  • Review manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Publish findings in reputable, peer-reviewed scientific and management journals.

  • Participate in CNMC's medical education initiatives through collaborative learning activities.

  • Effectively supervise and train clinical professionals and students.
