Position Overview

The Clinical Psychologist will provide comprehensive psychological care for patients within the hospital and outpatient clinics, alongside engaging in research, educational programs, and advocacy efforts as directed by the leadership of the Division or Center.

Essential Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) or PhD in Clinical or Developmental Psychology (Mandatory)

Experience Requirements
Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology (Mandatory).
Minimum of 3 years working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and engaging with families from diverse backgrounds. Experience in a pediatric academic environment is preferred. Evidence of involvement in collaborative research focusing on early childhood is essential. Interest in teaching and supervision is an advantage.

Core Competencies
In-depth knowledge of contemporary principles, methodologies, and interventions for psychological service delivery, including assessment and treatment in the specified area of expertise. Familiarity with legal and ethical standards governing psychological care.
Ability to independently assess patient issues and formulate care plans.
Capacity to integrate ethical considerations into patient care discussions with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Proficiency in supervising and mentoring clinical professionals and students in the area of expertise.
Commitment to maintaining quality and safety standards.
Demonstrates a personal commitment to ongoing education and stays updated on advancements in the field.
Adherence to legal and ethical standards in psychological service delivery.

Licensure and Certification
Licensed Psychologist in Washington, DC. Fully credentialed psychologist at Children's National Medical Center upon hire (Mandatory).

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver clinical services to patients at Children's Hospital and other designated locations in a professional, ethical, and timely manner.
  • Oversee the medical care team and manage direct patient care for a designated patient demographic; enhance continuity of care, customer service, and collaboration with community physicians through timely documentation and communication.
  • Provide on-call services as determined by leadership.
  • Engage in family-centered care and communicate compassionately and professionally; refer patients to specialists and ancillary services as needed.
  • Utilize the established chain of command and escalation protocols appropriately.
  • Respond to inquiries from team members and external providers in a respectful and timely manner; clearly communicate expectations regarding patient updates and significant clinical changes to trainees, encouraging their questions.

  • Educate patients and families on treatment, prevention, and care improvement strategies.

  • Participate in manuscript reviews for peer-reviewed journals.

  • Participate in CNMC's medical education initiatives through collaborative learning activities with colleagues and trainees.

  • Ensure comprehensive orientation for trainees in their care delivery.
  • Effectively supervise and train clinical professionals and students.
