Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Access Associate to join our team at UnityPoint Health. As a Patient Access Associate, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of patient registration and data collection.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with patients and their representatives to obtain and input accurate demographic and insurance data.
  • Consistently schedule, register, and obtain signatures from patients.
  • Collect and verify patient liability information, including insurance coverage and financial responsibility.
  • Utilize tools such as real-time eligibility responses and online resources to verify patient eligibility.
  • Communicate patient benefit information and follow collection guidelines.
  • Understand and execute downtime procedures to ensure seamless patient registration.
  • Maintain the ability to perform roles associated with Kiosk registration, including greeter and promoter.
Customer Service
  • Demonstrate UnityPoint Health's FOCUS values in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, greeting patients and visitors with professionalism and quality care.
  • Answer telephone calls in a clear, calm, and professional manner, routing calls promptly and accurately.
Financial Services/Billing
  • Knowledgeable of self-pay or underinsured patient policies and refer to the appropriate teams for resolution.
  • Ensure accuracy of data collection by resolving registration errors as assigned by work queues.
  • Understand requirements for authorization and medical necessity.
  • Utilize standardized tools to identify missed information and secure proper documentation.
  • Ensure financial integrity of the billing system with accurate reconciliation for point of service collections and cash drawer balancing.
Qualifications
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Medical-related diploma or certificate.
  • Completion of Medical Terminology Course/Module within 12 months of hire.
  • One year of medical office or equivalent experience.
  • Insurance billing experience for medical or hospital settings.
  • Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
  • Certification in CPI/MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behaviors) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification by yearly.
