Position Overview
The Patient Access Coordinator is responsible for managing patient appointments across various outpatient facilities, ensuring accurate scheduling within the appropriate departments. This role involves:
  • Verifying the correct appointment types, providers, dates, and durations to align with the patient's care plan.
  • Coordinating necessary preparatory tests and obtaining relevant medical records to enhance visit efficiency.
  • Communicating visit-specific instructions to patients and confirming their appointments through their preferred communication methods.
  • Ensuring financial clearance for patient visits by following established workflows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a patient advocate by anticipating their needs and addressing scheduling challenges as they arise.
  • Utilize independent judgment to assist with patient requests that extend beyond standard scheduling duties.
  • Maintain departmental best practices and uphold quality and professionalism standards.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for colleagues, patients, and visitors, potentially leading special projects within the department.
  • Participate in clinic or departmental meetings as a scheduling expert and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Typically requires 6 months to 1 year of administrative experience, along with excellent communication skills and proficiency in spreadsheet and database applications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with hospital and ambulatory clinic operations.
  • Experience using the Epic system.
  • Background in scheduling within an outpatient clinic environment.
