Position Overview:
The Patient Access Coordinator is responsible for managing patient appointment scheduling across various outpatient clinics, ensuring that patients are directed to the appropriate departments. This role involves verifying visit types, providers, dates, durations, and times to align with the patient's care plan and requested appointment dates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule appointments within the designated timeframes based on patient needs and care plans.
- Ensure all necessary appointment prerequisites are completed and records are obtained to enhance visit efficiency.
- Communicate visit-specific preparatory instructions to patients and confirm their upcoming appointments through their preferred communication methods.
- Follow established workflows to guarantee financial security for patient visits.
Patient Advocacy:
The Patient Access Coordinator anticipates patient needs and acts as an advocate, addressing any scheduling challenges that may arise. This role requires independent judgment to assist with patient requests beyond standard scheduling tasks.
Standards and Mentorship:
- Uphold departmental best practices, quality standards, and professionalism.
- Serve as a mentor and role model for colleagues, patients, and visitors, and may participate in special projects for the department.
- Attend clinic or departmental meetings as a scheduling expert and may perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Experience:
- Typically requires 6 months to 1 year of administrative experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet and database applications is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with hospital operations and/or Ambulatory Clinic operations.
- Experience with the Epic system is advantageous.
- Previous scheduling experience in an outpatient clinic setting is desirable.
