Job Overview

Position Title: Submarine Cybersecurity Validator

Objective:

KMS Solutions, LLC is in search of a dedicated professional to become part of a specialized team of cybersecurity experts and Navy Qualified Validators. This role involves providing essential support to the Cybersecurity Directorate for Submarine Operations. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the cybersecurity compliance of submarine systems, particularly focusing on the Submarine Warfare Federated Tactical System (SWFTS), which integrates various submarine capabilities including combat control, navigation, and sensor systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Validation: Serve as an impartial third-party evaluator to confirm that systems have effectively implemented the approved security control baseline.
  • Documentation Management: Develop, maintain, and validate essential accreditation documents such as System Security Plans (SSP), Implementation Plans, and Risk Assessment Reports (RAR).
  • Risk Assessment: Assess the cybersecurity posture and conduct risk evaluations on Platform Information Technology (PIT) systems to identify and address vulnerabilities.
  • Vulnerability Management: Collaborate with engineering teams to address existing vulnerabilities and devise strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Policy Implementation: Apply and enforce Department of Defense (DoD) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) policies and requirements.
  • Compliance Evaluation: Execute security compliance evaluations across various environments including testing and developmental sites.
  • Network Security: Utilize network mapping and vulnerability scanning tools to enhance security measures.
  • Data Collection: Engage in cybersecurity data collection efforts to support critical assessments.
  • Liaison Role: Act as a point of contact for the Security Control Assessor to facilitate validation and documentation processes.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold current certification as a Navy Qualified Validator (NQV).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in performing NQV activities as outlined in the Navy's Risk Management Framework.
  • Over 10 years of experience in cybersecurity, particularly in Assessment and Authorization (A&A) processes.
  • Proficient in developing accreditation documentation.
  • Experience with Navy PIT systems is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the NIST RMF process.
  • Possession of an Information Assurance certification at IAM Level II or IAT Level II/III.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with submarine or naval weapon systems.
  • Familiarity with cyber risk management platforms.
  • Experience in standardizing cybersecurity processes.
  • A Master's degree in a related field is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective time management abilities to meet project deadlines.
  • Experience working with distributed teams.
  • Ability to mentor junior cybersecurity professionals.
  • Collaboration skills with system developers to ensure compliance.

Additional Information:

Security Clearance: A Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance is mandatory.

Work Environment: This position is based in a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment.

Physical Requirements: The role requires effective communication skills and the ability to perform various physical tasks.

Work Schedule: The standard workday consists of eight hours, with some flexibility allowed.

Telework Policy: This position permits up to 40% telework, with occasional in-office requirements.

Travel Requirements: Up to 10% travel may be necessary for various assessments.
