Job Summary

The Patient Financial Navigator is responsible for delivering a remarkable patient experience by resolving billing and insurance concerns for all acute care centers, ambulatory surgical centers, and clinics. This role requires strong communication skills, empathy, and compassion to effectively interact with patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review patient financial information and communicate with patients and/or responsible parties regarding third-party reimbursement coverage and/or patient responsibility.
  • Counsel patients on financial assistance options and refer them to medical eligibility agencies as needed.
  • Collect payment or set up payment plans prior to services being rendered, at time of admission, or during the discharge process.
  • Utilize Novant Health's First Do No Harm safety behaviors/error prevention tools and high reliability strategies to ensure a safe patient experience.
Requirements
  • High School or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 years related experience in registration, insurance verification, financial counseling, and/or patient accounting required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a hospital or healthcare setting required.
  • Notary Public Certification within 6 months of hire required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal and State laws as they apply to charity care, agency assistance, and debt collection.
  • EPIC software experience.
