Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Legislative Assistant plays a crucial role in facilitating and executing the coordination of all Government Relations initiatives within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee legislative tracking for a diverse portfolio of clients, managing over 250 legislative proposals and activities related to both House and Senate Committee sessions.
  • Conduct legislative research to support client development and proposals, ensuring comprehensive understanding of potential opportunities.
  • Coordinate scheduling for client meetings and frequent client engagements, typically occurring multiple times each week.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of three major annual client meetings, as well as periodic general membership gatherings, which may involve travel.
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain client Political Action Committee (PAC) filings.
  • Gather and categorize political fundraising notifications for pertinent Congressional members, advising clients on event participation based on funding availability and strategic goals.
  • This role also includes serving as a primary backup for the Office Operations Coordinator, which may involve covering reception duties and other administrative tasks as required.

Supervision Structure:

The Legislative Assistant reports to the Partner in Charge in Washington, D.C., the Regional Office Manager, and other attorneys and Government Relations Advisors within the office.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Preferred possession of a college degree.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capability to adapt to new software systems, including managing information on client websites.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Work Environment:

This position necessitates prolonged periods of sitting while utilizing a computer. Employees may occasionally be required to work beyond standard hours. Physical mobility is essential, including the ability to bend and lift files weighing approximately 10-15 pounds. Occasional travel may be required.
