Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Instructional Technology Specialist.

Position Overview:
The selected individual will engage collaboratively with various departments to enhance and support educational services, focusing on the integration of innovative technologies, including the University’s AI+ initiative, into the academic framework.

This role presents a unique opportunity to ensure that ITS is at the forefront of technological advancements that support the educational mission of the University.

The Specialist will play a crucial role in enhancing academic and virtual learning environments, as well as in the integration of data across educational services. They will assist faculty in identifying and utilizing emerging AI technologies in their curricula.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about leveraging cutting-edge technologies to promote effective teaching and learning, possess strong technical skills, and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. They should be comfortable working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including faculty, technical teams, and campus partners.

The Specialist should be self-driven and capable of working independently or as part of a team. They are expected to make informed decisions aligned with ITS standards, represent the organization professionally, and act as a subject matter expert in the ongoing enhancement of technologies that support educational services.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement innovative educational service offerings and solutions.
  • Collaborate directly with faculty to assess the specific technical requirements of their courses.
  • Lead and participate in design teams to translate course requirements into technical solutions, including necessary documentation.
  • Oversee project teams to execute designed solutions, addressing both technical and documentation needs.
  • Facilitate the operationalization of technical implementations for faculty and student use.
  • Lead ITS initiatives for the continuous improvement of existing and emerging academic computing and virtual learning environments.
  • Communicate effectively in various formats, including in-person and written documentation.

Focus on AI:


Contribute to the service team that assists faculty in integrating AI systems into their courses across diverse disciplines. Develop expertise in AI computing and storage resources available for educational use. Effectively communicate AI capabilities to faculty through various digital and in-person channels.


Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provide escalation support for various educational IT systems.
  • Monitor and address issues across classrooms, labs, and virtual environments, proactively engaging with faculty to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan service roadmaps, schedules, and budget forecasts for the continuous enhancement and replacement of technology in classrooms and labs.
  • Be available for scheduled support and consultation outside of regular business hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of professional experience in managing virtual environments and SaaS solutions.
  • One year of experience directly supporting instructors in the use of technology for educational purposes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AI concepts, including machine learning and natural language processing.
  • Proficiency in computing skills, including Microsoft 365 and collaboration tools.
  • Ability to foster inclusive and equitable relationships within a diverse campus community.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A master’s degree or advanced certifications in a relevant field.
  • Two years of professional experience with SaaS models in education.
  • Two years of experience with AI applications in educational settings.
  • Experience in the administration of digital learning environments and knowledge of accessibility standards.
