Position Overview:
We are seeking a seasoned instrumentation expert to convert high-level project objectives into practical work packages. The successful candidate will work closely with both local and remote design teams to establish processes for detailed design execution across various chemical manufacturing facilities. Projects will vary from single-discipline support to fully integrated multifunctional teams. The ideal applicant should possess comprehensive knowledge of instrumentation design and be capable of managing a remote design team while overseeing estimating, scheduling, tracking, and executing multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Integration:
    • Develop robust system designs and integrate instrumentation and control systems within chemical facilities, including the formulation of system architectures and selection of appropriate sensors and control devices.
    • Design control loops to guarantee optimal performance and safety.
  • Specification and Procurement:
    • Define specifications for instruments, control devices, and automation technologies, focusing on accuracy, reliability, compatibility, and adherence to industry standards.
    • Assess vendor proposals and select suitable equipment during the procurement process.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
    • Provide support for troubleshooting and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems, diagnosing and resolving issues with sensors, actuators, controllers, and communication networks.
    • Develop maintenance strategies and procedures to ensure system reliability and availability.
  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and industry standards, evaluate risks, implement safety measures, and design systems to mitigate hazards. Participate in safety audits and inspections.
    • Continuously monitor and analyze system performance, identifying opportunities for optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Leadership:
    • Exhibit strong leadership and interpersonal skills to drive cross-functional improvements; be a self-motivated team player with a proactive approach.
    • Foster a positive team culture by embracing change and mentoring team members.
  • Management:
    • Oversee project execution activities to support detailed design across multiple assignments of varying complexity.
    • Define and enhance work processes, implement and supervise checking procedures, and provide training opportunities for team members.
    • Develop project deliverable work packages by managing approximately 30% of detailed engineering and organizing work into manageable segments for remote completion.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (mechanical, chemical, electrical) from an ABET accredited institution or 5+ years of experience in an engineering or engineering services organization, including leadership roles in project design.
• Proven experience as an Instrument and Control Engineer/Designer in the chemical or related industry.
• Strong understanding of sensors, control systems, and automation technologies.
• Proficiency in software tools for instrument selection, sizing, and database generation, such as AVEVA Engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations pertaining to instrumentation and control systems.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and CAD tools including 2D, 3D, Laser Scans, Bentley, AVEVA, and AutoCAD platforms.
