The Packaging mill in Kingsport, TN is seeking a qualified Senior Control Systems Engineer.

This position, reporting to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager, will concentrate on providing support for the distributed control system (DCS) software and hardware utilized throughout the Mill. Key responsibilities include enhancing existing control systems and developing new applications. This role necessitates close collaboration with Maintenance, Operations, and technical personnel to improve the efficiency of control systems, fully integrating into the Mill environment while receiving guidance and mentorship for professional advancement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Optimization and Capital Projects
    • Enhance current mill control systems
    • Design and implement new control systems/applications
  • Organizational Effectiveness
    • Provide technical guidance to Operational and Electrical Maintenance teams in troubleshooting process control systems
    • Engage effectively with all organizational levels
  • Safety
    • Serve as a safety advocate and lead by example
    • Facilitate team efforts to identify root causes, implement permanent corrective actions, document findings in the mill-wide database, and ensure follow-up
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution; other engineering qualifications will be considered with relevant process control experience
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the paper industry
  • At least five years of experience with ABB and/or Valmet distributed control systems; familiarity with other DCS systems will also be considered
  • Ability to provide on-call support and work outside of regular hours as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in technical writing and delivering presentations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ten years of experience in process control
  • Advanced knowledge of ABB and Valmet control systems
  • Experience in troubleshooting instrumentation hardware (e.g., transmitters, drives, etc.)
  • Experience in configuring and resolving communication links (OPC, Modbus, etc.)
  • Familiarity with PI, ParcView, and SAP
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and adherence to company safety and environmental policies
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, make informed decisions, and effectively resolve issues
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with various departments and stakeholders
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to multitask
  • Team-oriented mindset, capable of collaborating with diverse teams across different organizational levels and functions
