Position: Elective Instructor at Baltimore City Community College

Position Overview:

The Upward Bound Math and Science Program (UBMS) at BCCC is in search of an Elective Instructor to contribute to its mission. This role involves delivering elective courses to high school students within a pre-college initiative designed to enhance their mathematical and scientific capabilities. The successful candidate will foster an interactive learning atmosphere, customize instructional strategies to support student development, and play a vital role in the program's overall effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement activities that maximize efficiency and impact.
  • Establish a supportive environment of equity and respect that motivates students to take risks and pursue their goals.
  • Set and uphold high expectations for behavior and academic performance in accordance with program standards.
  • Utilize a student-centered and project-based curriculum approach.
  • Maintain regular communication with program staff regarding classroom requirements and student progress.
  • Employ teaching methodologies that accommodate various learning preferences.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with current technology and assess student performance effectively.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision of students to maintain a safe educational setting.
  • Engage in effective communication and collaboration with all stakeholders.
  • Keep comprehensive records of student attendance and academic progress.
  • Exhibit fluency in English for effective interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience in a relevant field.
  • Ability to create engaging projects for youth that promote innovation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline or related field.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Three or more years of teaching experience in the specified area.
