Lead Transmission Engineer

Position Overview
The role involves collaborating, executing, and spearheading reliability and economic studies, including assessments of voltage, thermal dynamics, power voltage (PV), transfer limits, short circuits, and stability evaluations.
Engage in the analysis and evaluation of intricate transmission systems across various voltage levels. Document findings and communicate recommendations effectively, which includes data manipulation, report generation, and summary presentations.
Continuously seek to innovate and implement enhancements to boost the accuracy and efficiency of transmission planning processes.
Aim to identify and cultivate subject matter expertise to mentor and support the team, thereby facilitating the advancement of organizational objectives.
Engage and collaborate with internal teams and industry colleagues on regional initiatives (e.g., NPCC, ISO's, etc.).
Develop and apply a comprehensive understanding of diverse planning criteria, guidelines, and standards (e.g., NERC, NPCC, etc.), along with analysis software tools such as PSS/E, TARA, and ASPEN.
Participate in site inspections for transmission and substations; attend industry workshops, training sessions, and user group meetings as necessary.

Technical Skills and Requirements
The following skills and competencies are preferred for candidates pursuing a position in Transmission Planning. However, relevant industry experience and other technical skills will be considered for candidates lacking direct experience in Transmission Planning activities (e.g., T&S Engineering, P&C, etc.).

- Theoretical Engineering Knowledge: Planning, Operations, Engineering Design, Analytics, Modeling & Calculations (e.g., symmetrical components, per unit analysis), Understanding the Business Model

- Practical Engineering Experience/Application: Planning, Operations, Engineering Design, Construction (e.g., field experience, standardization, developing business cases, and defending them before stakeholders)

- Engineering Documentation: Proficiency in documenting and interpreting engineering documentation, reviewing, and approving engineering work conducted by others

- Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment: Familiarity with Local, State, and Federal Regulatory Standards and Requirements (NERC, NPCC, ISO, PUC, etc.)

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required
5+ years of relevant industry experience
