Job Summary

This role is pivotal in conducting thorough assessments of needs and solutions to tackle a broad spectrum of Transmission & Substation (T&S) reliability and infrastructure challenges.

The Principal Engineer will be tasked with nurturing internal talent, fostering collaboration across various departments, and guiding external consulting resources across diverse utility disciplines in the quest for effective project development.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Act as a primary representative for the Project Development Manager regarding team assignments and technical discussions, while mentoring junior engineers.
  2. Oversee the conceptual design phase of new T&S capital projects, ensuring they are ready for financial approval and subsequent execution.
  3. Ensure all proposed T&S projects align with stakeholder and internal investment requirements by providing adequate justification and documentation.
  4. Lead the Transmission System Review Group (TSRG) in evaluating and approving new projects prior to execution.
  5. Provide technical oversight and decision-making for all T&S capital projects from inception through to construction.
  6. Facilitate collaboration meetings with Operations, Maintenance, and Planning teams to identify and resolve T&S system issues.
  7. Conduct thorough investigations of T&S system needs requiring comprehensive assessments to ensure alignment with long-term investment strategies.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering. An advanced degree such as an MBA or a Professional Engineering License is preferred.

Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in T&D Power Systems, including Planning, Engineering, Construction, or Operations.

Proven ability to lead engineering teams in conducting comprehensive assessments of T&S reliability and infrastructure deficiencies.

Demonstrated skill in delivering innovative solutions to justify T&S projects and investment plans.

Technical Skills:
In-depth knowledge of T&S Power Systems, applicable design codes, and regional regulatory requirements.

Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, capable of articulating complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences.

Team Leadership:
Proven experience in leading and managing teams towards achieving common objectives.
