Springfield Public Schools (SPS), a vibrant urban educational institution in Western Massachusetts, is currently seeking applications for both full-time and part-time positions in music education at the elementary and middle school levels.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts classes as assigned in designated locations and times.
  • Designs a curriculum that caters to the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Establishes a classroom setting that is supportive of learning and appropriate for the developmental stages of students.
  • Directs the educational process towards achieving established curriculum objectives, clearly communicating goals for all lessons and projects.
  • Prepares thoroughly for classes and provides evidence of preparation when requested by supervisors.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching methods and instructional media, tailored to the physical constraints of the environment and the needs of students.
  • Strives to embody the district's educational philosophy and performance expectations through instruction and conduct.
  • Regularly evaluates student progress, providing necessary reports and communicating with parents as needed.
  • Keeps accurate and comprehensive records as mandated by law and district policy.
  • Identifies learning challenges among students and collaborates with district specialists when necessary.
  • Ensures the safety of students, equipment, and materials.
  • Adheres to the district's code of conduct, establishing fair and just classroom rules.
  • Oversees and evaluates the work of paraprofessionals as required.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development to meet district standards and personal growth goals.
  • Participates actively in the teacher evaluation process, contributing to a collaborative understanding of evaluation outcomes.
  • Attends meetings to foster communication and collaborative decision-making among staff.
  • Participates in school-sponsored events as agreed upon with administration.
  • Contributes to discussions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and overall well-being within the district.
  • Aims to enhance and maintain professional competence.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possesses required expertise in the subject area.
  • Holds a valid educator license in Music (Vocal/Instrumental/General) from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Has a Bachelor's Degree with the appropriate licensure; a Master's Degree in the relevant field is preferred or expected within five years.
