Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Registered Nurse to join our Cardiovascular Surgery team at HealthEcareers - Client. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care, leading clinical activities, and mentoring department staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Clinical Expertise
    • Provide professional direct patient nursing care to a diverse patient population, including patients with complex needs.
    • Assume leadership responsibilities, contributing to department and institutional goals.
    • Lead department clinical activities, assessing department needs, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Staff Development and Mentorship
    • Identify staff development opportunities for professional growth and provide coaching to meet identified goals.
    • Act as a model and coach staff in effective communication, active listening, and teaching.
    • Provide oversight for new employee preceptorships.
  • Quality and Safety
    • Model the standards of care related to the nursing process, as outlined in the Houston Methodist Professional Nursing Practice document.
    • Provide care as the staff nurse leader to complex patients and lead the interprofessional health care team in implementing plan of care.
    • Anticipate and prevent declines in patient condition and emergent situations.
  • Financial Stewardship
    • Model independent time management and prioritize daily tasks, minimizing incidental overtime.
    • Actively participate in the stewardship and efficient utilization of resources, including capital and operational budget needs.
  • Growth and Innovation
    • Identify opportunities for practice changes and performance improvement.
    • Investigate and incorporate evidence-based practices, presenting options to department and leadership.
    • Champion new care pathways or service line implementations to improve care to the community.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Three years of nursing experience, with one year in specialty preferred.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure within 60 days.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA).

  • Demonstrate the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
