Position Overview: The role involves providing essential information to patients, healthcare professionals, and community providers regarding speech and hearing assessments and therapeutic services.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Address inquiries from patients and staff, directing them to the appropriate personnel when necessary.
  2. Deliver prompt and effective resolutions to service-related issues, including testing and billing inquiries.
  3. Manage incoming calls and coordinate both new and follow-up patient appointments, utilizing knowledge of speech and hearing protocols to determine appropriate visit types.
  4. Facilitate the acquisition of insurance authorizations and referrals.
  5. Check in patients, ensuring all necessary documentation, authorizations, and referrals are collected in a courteous and professional manner, while being familiar with the specific requirements of various insurance providers.
  6. Maintain adequate supplies for the front desk and office operations.
  7. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment: Stony Brook Medicine promotes a smoke-free environment, prohibiting smoking on campus, including parking areas and outdoor spaces.

Position Requirements: This role may require flexibility in work hours and shifts as needed. Additionally, the position may necessitate the use of respiratory protection, which could restrict the wearing of facial hair.

Essential Function: This position may be designated as essential, meaning that during institutional emergencies, employees may be required to remain on-site or report to work to ensure the continuity of operations at Stony Brook Medicine and its affiliated facilities.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience.
