Position Overview

As an Educational Support Specialist at Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, you will play a vital role in assisting children who are deaf or hard of hearing in an early childhood educational setting. Your responsibilities will encompass providing support for up to 5.5 hours each school day, ensuring a nurturing and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Support Teachers of the Deaf in delivering group lessons and tailored learning activities.
  • Facilitate daily routines and transitions for children, including activities such as dressing, toileting, and meal times.
  • Encourage play and early language interactions both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist in implementing individual learning and behavior plans, including data collection.
  • Help maintain attendance records and prepare educational materials and classroom settings.
  • Provide ongoing listening and language support under the direction of the classroom Teacher of the Deaf and Speech Language Pathologists.
  • Reinforce and review educational content with small groups and individual students.
  • Assist students with their equipment and conduct listening checks.
  • Document attendance and student progress accurately.
  • Adhere to state licensing agency regulations, school policies, and classroom rules.
  • Collaborate with educational staff in lesson planning and implementation.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and complete necessary training.
Physical Requirements

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to be on the floor for extended periods.
  • Capability to stand for prolonged durations.
  • Occasional light lifting and moving of equipment may be required.
  • Rare instances of lifting a young child may occur.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Experience in early childhood education is preferred.
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, and Epi Pen training is required.
  • Special education experience is advantageous.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Must hold or be eligible for an Early Education and Care preschool teacher license.
